Princeton Public Utilities (PPU) is seeking candidates for a Lineworker. This position performs technical work constructing, maintaining and operating PPU electric distribution lines, substations and related work as apparent or assigned in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner. Lineworkers also provide assistance to ensure that the distribution system remains in compliance with all applicable state and federal and industrial related regulations at all times.
Required: Must be a team player that can also work independently in the field. Must have mechanical and technical aptitude with a knowledge of standard electric utility construction and maintenance practices. Be dependable and able to work in all weather. Values customer confidentiality and serving the community.
Most importantly, have pride in providing reliable electric service to our customers and a desire to help during outages, emergencies, and other events outside of normal business hours as needed.
Any combination of education and experience with standard electric utility construction and maintenance practices:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completed a lineworker program
- Previous experience in the construction and maintenance of electrical construction and maintenance.
- Journey certification preferred. Apprentices will be considered.
Hourly Rate: $47.25 / hour (2026 pay scale) for journey lineworkers. Apprentices will be dependent upon experience and qualifications.
Other Details: The Lineworker is part of the Line Crew reporting to the Electrical Superintendent and working alongside other Lineworkers. The Line Crew also assists the Water and Power Plant staff when needed. We have typical field operations where the work hours are 7:00-3:30 Monday through Friday. In addition, Lineworkers are responsible for rotating On-Call shifts which includes holidays and weekends.
